The Cost of Servanthood

Luke 14:25-30
Now large crowds were traveling with him; and he turned and said to them, "Whoever comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and even life itself, cannot be my disciple. For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not first sit down and estimate the cost, to see whether he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it will begin to ridicule him, saying, 'This fellow began to build and was not able to finish.'

Obviously context is important, for God did not create within us a hatred of life or of spouses and children. Indeed we are told to love all! But not at the expense or in place of a love for God's eternal kingdom, here on earth as it is in heaven. So within that context of priorities, we are warned not to place the welfare of our own earthly concerns above the heavenly concerns that Jesus came to show us.

Summer has arrived! We had a very successful Vacation Bible School last week and now will prepare for ongoing activities including a Fanily Ministries movie night on Friday!
